The dances moved and gyrated on the linoleum dance floor. Colored lights blinked and shined in time to the music, bouncing off of smooth skin and sweat. The air was full of the smell of perfume, cologne, and musk, all combining together to form the unequivocal scent of desire. It fit with the club's reputation as a meet and greet for potential hook ups for the night.
In a corner of the club, sitting by a table that gave her clear view of the exits, sat Shyane King: college student and vampire slayer extraordinaire. If only she felt extraordinary at the moment.
It had been four months since Shyane had moved to the little town in Massachusetts, as Aurora University seemed like the best option her scholarship had offered. From what she had heard, the school offered an excellent premed program, and she had the idea of holding her own medical doctorate as her educational goal.
There were, admittedly, other reasons why she had come to Aurora as well. This town had a reputation for being otherworldly, in the supernatural sense. Ghost stories, bigfoot sightings, whispers of creatures of the night all floated out of the town and back to NYC, her old home. Since her emergence as the Slayer back in the middle of high school, she had taken an interest in the supposed unknown. So her relocation to the town that openly celebrated an astronomical alignment seemed like a no-brainer.
If only she received results that matched her expectations. Shyane was surprised at the level of vampire activity in the town, but that didn't mean they gave her any answers on what she was. Shyane had a title, and some idea of the extent of her powers, but not how she got them, or the history of the Slayers. They couldn't have just popped out from oblivion. The possibility that she was the only Slayer did enter into her mind, but she dismissed it, as she wasn't looking forward for another reason to be lonely.
So, the young-ish Slayer sat in the club, nursing her drink, taking in some downtime before heading off for her nightly patrol. She figured that if she was a creature of the night looking for some naive figure to take and drain of blood, working the night club scene would be a good start. Plus, the music wasn't awful, and that had to count for something.
